March is National Nutrition Month® and at EHS we celebrate it by promoting the importance of eating healthy and nutritious food. For that, we invited Dan Phelan, Corporate Chef of Luby’s Culinary Services, who gave a fantastic healthy cooking demonstration at Texas Emergency Hospital. He not only showed us step by step how to prepare two of his favorite recipes, but also provided the nutritional facts of the recipes. You can see the cooking demo video on our Facebook page.
We are also hosting a “Healthy Recipe Exchange” with our staff so that we can all enjoy and learn from each other’s healthy recipes. It’s a way of reminding everyone that choosing a healthy meal is always a better choice. From entrees, side dish to salads and desserts, we´re inviting all of our staff to submit their favorite healthy recipe to share and exchange with everyone.
National Nutrition Month is an annual campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics with the goal of encouraging everyone to “focus on the importance of making informed food choices, developing sound eating and physical activity habits.”
This year’s theme is “Celebrating a World of Flavors” which spans global cultures, cuisines and inclusion, plus highlighting the expertise of registered dietitian nutritionists. This means being open to new flavors, cuisines and eating experiences. At EHS we celebrate cultural and gastronomic diversity by inviting our staff to share their favorite recipes from their hometowns and countries.
Many thanks to Luby’s and Chef Dan Phalen for coming out to Texas Emergency Hospital in Cleveland to showcase some amazing recipes!
