March is recognized as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in Texas. Although people with disabilities face challenges that their peers do not, this condition does not prevent them from being self-sufficient, able to work, earn a living, and contribute positively to their communities.
At Emergency Hospital Systems, we encouraged all our staff to support “inclusion” by wearing an orange ribbon throughout March. The ribbons were available in the break rooms at all of our facilities. We firmly believe that Texas is most powerful when its citizens fully integrate into their communities, even with any developmental disability.
